2023...Are you ready for me?

As I mentioned in my previous blog, 2022 was a great year for me - I was blessed in so many ways. But now it’s time to look ahead to a new year and see what mountains we can conquer.

I noticed a social media reel making the rounds asking what’s your word for the year (check my IG for my take). Coincidentally, Toronto Metropolitan University asked me to submit my word for the year with some advice for the Alumni newsletter. I gave it some thought and kicked around a bunch of words that I thought would be impactful, but then changed my mind, they felt too trendy. I wanted to come up with a word that was transferrable - not just for business, but also for your personal life, your personal growth and with all relationships.

I decided on the word: patience.

It’s something I’ve spent my whole life working on in so many situations: with family, relationships, my children, my career, my business, and waiting in line for just about anything lol. Think about it, or rather take a day and count how many times you have to practice patience. And it’s not just about losing your temper. It can be just waiting on life to bring the good or the big pay off. It can be having patience with yourself when you may not be learning something as quickly as you hoped. Patience with getting results from all your exercise and eating right. Patience in finding that perfect home to live in or coming up with the down payment.

Patience is not easy. Especially when you want something really bad. However, I have found that in every single challenging situation I have ever faced in life, when I practiced patience, the outcome I was seeking was the result. It definitely wasn’t in the time period I had hoped for, but it happened. So as I march into 2023 feeling ready to receive my blessings and enjoy another stellar year, I also remind myself to put patience first.

I found a Swahili proverb that says it all: A patient person never misses a thing.”
