Mitzie Hunter is an accomplished, dynamic leader driven by strong values with a moral compass of giving back to the community. Her proven track record of building and championing cities has positively impacted the lives of residents. 

Mitzie is currently the president and CEO of the Canadian Women's Foundation. Before this role, she recently ran for Mayor of Toronto and was the only candidate that provided a costed and funded plan to ‘Fix The Six.’ As the former MPP for Scarborough-Guildwood, winning four consecutive elections over 10 years, Mitzie held several high-level leadership positions: Minister of Education, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Development, and Associate Minister of Finance responsible for the Ontario Retirement Pension Plan. Her work led to expansion of CPP benefits. She was also the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Community and Social Services and served on the Select Committee for Developmental Disabilities and Dual Diagnosis.

Mitzie’s 30 years of leadership experience spans the private sector, nonprofit and government. Her achievements include championing vital infrastructure projects, advocating for community improvements, and she is a founding visionary of initiatives like the Prosperity Project. Her public service extends to her role as Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Toronto Community Housing Corporation and head of CivicAction, a convenor of business, government and community which aims to improve cities.

Mitzie is a proud Toronto arts, culture and sports enthusiast, cyclist, reader, and advocate for women's economic opportunity. Her life’s accomplishments are a testimony to Mitzie’s ability to develop strategies that form highly motivated teams.

Mitzie Hunter is a seasoned public speaker renowned for her captivating presence and insightful presentations. She has delivered presentations at the Canadian Club Toronto, Empire Club of Canada, C.D. Howe Institute, University of Guelph Humber and the Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association to name a few. Mitzie has been featured in numerous media outlets including CP24, CBC News, CTV News and the Toronto Star.

Cities & Communities

Mitzie Hunter continues to be a champion for communities and positive change. She was recently appointed as a Senior Fellow with the C.D. Howe Institute, a Canadian nonprofit policy research organization in Toronto. As well as a Canadian Urban Leader at UofT School of Cities. During this appointment, Mitzie will engage actively in School of Cities events and contribute to the work of the School. She is focused on prioritizing research that improves housing affordability and safety in communities. She serves on the Board of Directors of The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery and the Kiwanis Club of Scarborough which she co-founded.
